This was a fast-paced thrill of a read, with characters that were credible ( the father and son especially ) although the story became a little too violent towards the end. I don't want to give any spoilers here. The writing was spare, with no superfluous descriptions, and I read this in a few hours. Not for persons of a sensitive nature.
Still Alice by Lisa Genova
Still Alice by Lisa Genova
A beautifully written and sensitive book about the progress of this disease and its effects from the point of view of a brilliant woman who develops it at the age of 50. The characters are well-drawn and believable and the reader is led to an understanding of the random nature of the disease and how it affects families. A very worthy read.
The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike) by Robert Galbraith
5.0 out of 5 stars a holiday treat !, 11 Sep 2014
I was surprised to enjoy this book so much ! The writing style was perhaps a little heavy on description and dialogue was in some instances phonetic, but the characterisation was credible and I was gripped by the story, a detective thriller. Read over 3 days on holiday as didn't want to put the book ( on Kindle ) down. I would recommend to anyone who wants a good, engrossing read. I shall certainly follow the exploits of Cormoran Strike in future books.
