I bought this bought a few months ago - and I must say first of all that I haven't actually visited South America yet. My review is thus not based on the proven accuracy or usefulness of the content whilst on the ground; but rather the usefulness in the planning process.

There is no doubt that the book is rich in information, but if you are looking for a book to inspire you and give you ideas for your trip to South America - this is not the book for you. The book is in fact a practical guide to South America. Fits my Acer Aspire S3 like a glove. It looks great, too. However, after about a month or so, it has already started showing signs of wear and tear. Of course, for the price of 15 or so, you can't expect a bullet-proof laptop case; nonetheless, I take good care of my laptop and still the case has started coming apart at the seams in all four corners. I wouldn't be too happy about that, had I paid the Amazon RRP of 40...

As a 23-year-old English man who is just about to begin a second year living in France, I felt positively compelled to pick up this book. Two days and 400 pages later and I do not regret this decision! This book is absolutely fantastic. Anyone who has ever spent a long period of time in France will be able to identify with so much that is written here. It is clear that the author himself is very familiar with living in France, and he uses this knowledge combined with the typical piercing English humour to make a genuine laugh-out-loud piece of literature. At many points throughout my read I had to stop and put the book down as I tried to laugh out of my system another hilarious metaphor… Read more
