Sony DSCHX50 Compact Digital Camera - Black (20.4MP, 30x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD
I have the predecessor of this (DSC-HX 9V) which is the same but less zoom and fewer megapixels. After two years I continue to be amazed at the quality of its photos, even when compared to my Single Lens Reflex. Sharp, well balanced, really excellent low-light performance and lots of settings. The only negative is the GPS which can take up to two minutes to log on to the satellites, which is not good when on a walk with friends or on holiday walking around a town. However, very satisfied indeed.
I agree with all the good points made by all these reviews. Sturdy build. I don't think that at max. power it is as powerful as my friend's Nikon SB-600 or SB-800 (at four times the price!) but I think that amount of power would only be important if you wanted to take party shots in the dark outside and wanted the max. reach. For my indoor work, including tabletop photography, and indoor and outdoor group photos, it is amply powerful. It is manual so will not take instructions from the camera as to zoom, power of flash etc. It flashes on the shoe of my Nikon D3100 when the shutter button is pressed and a flash is needed, but you need to set the power (zoom) manually to suit the… Read more
Ex-ProŽ Multi Angle Universal Hot Shoe Flash Holde&hellip by Ex-Pro

This has an adjustable shoe that took my flashgun (but note point about Sony). It is solid and well made and the shoe is adjustable. It fitted my flash gun but note the point about Sony. Because of the length of the flash gun (any flash gun) from shoe to flash, the flash points away from or towards the centre of the umbrella, but that didn't seem to be a problem. The image on the site is very poor because it does not show the wing knob for tightening the adaptor on to the light stand, hidden behind in the… Read more
