Super music (of course), cleay printed (to be expected), promptly expedited (ever dependable). What did suprise was that I acquitted myself creditably as Polyphemus, my girth doubtless adding a measure of much needed veracity....really can't understand why Galatea preferred that milksop Acis to me...

I bought this LP when it was first issued. Paata Burchuladze was just beginning to be known outside the Soviet Union, and I had been recommended the LP by my voice teacher as we were both studying 'Che mai veggio' from "Ernani" at the time. The richness and depth of Burchuladze's bass were wonderful even if some announced themselves worried by the sound of his Italian vowels, an element that really did not diminish my own pleasure or admiration in any way. Each piece of Verdi - Simon Boccanegra, Ernani, Don Carlo, etc was sung with entire conviction and movingly. The flip-side of the LP carried extracts from Boris Godunov, which, quite naturally, was spectacularly good.

The blurb under 'Product Description' has a fatal error. It states that Jacques de Molay was crucified. He was not. He, and other leading Templar Knights, were burnt at the stake on the Ile de la Cite in the middle of the Seine in Paris. His death, and the torture, murder and suppression of the Templar Knights is, without doubt, one of the very blackest pages in French and Papal history.
