It is 50 years since Doctor Who was first shown on television, Shadow of Death is one of many exciting products which has been released in the anniversary year to mark this achievement. The Shadow of Death is the second in the series of 11 audio stories which will feature and link all 11 Doctors. The Argon Digital Radio IPod dock is very impressive, it tunes in automatically when you switch it on and also the time comes up automatically, so you do not have to spend time entering this. I often listen to radio 4, and I felt that the reception for this and all the digital stations was very good indeed. It also plays my Ipod very clearly too. The one criticism I would have is that I had problems entering the preset stations and also the alarm facility. I tried to follow the instructions but I could not get these facilities to work. Other than this I would say the radio is a good purchase and it has far superior sound to my other digital radio.

For many people the definitive Philip Marlowe is the one so memorably brought to life by Humphrey Bogart in the 1940s. It was not an easy task for Toby Stevens to step into the role in a radio play of one of the lesser known Marlowe stories. However, he is excellent in the role and this is another fine radio play by BBC4. The play has cut out certain parts of the book, but this means you get a good fast paced play with no padding. The BBC successfully recreates the atmosphere of California in the 1940s. Highly recommended
