Janet O'Kane is a natural storyteller. Her words flow across the pages as the mystery unfolds and I found myself fully absorbed in the characters and the plot very quickly.

Set in a small town in the Scottish boarders, Zoe Moreland , new to the area and with the intention of starting a new life, comes across the remains of a body on a burnt-out bonfire. The setting reminds me of the recent television hit, Broadchurch, where the brutal murder has an impact on many people in the close-knit community. It's been a while since I read a book that made me cry. I read this book in 1 day, it was totally absorbing. The characters are so lifelike I felt part of the story and was swept along on this very emotional and thought provoking ride. What a read!
