As I sit with a glass of Malbec in hand, listening to Siobhan Lamb's latest album - The Nightingale and the Rose - featuring the prodigiously gifted Gerard Presencer, I am hugely impressed by the writing, soloing and ensemble playing, It's exciting and incredibly musical and really needs to be heard.

The mellifluous sound of Gerard Presencer, combined with the warmth of the Danish National Vocal Ensemble and the energy of the Danish Radio Big Band equals an interesting and beautiful experience for the listener. Is Jazz Dead? Or has it moved to a new address?

When I first heard about this book I was intrigued by the title and was not sure what to expect with regards to the content. At first I thought it could be a historical perspective on jazz or another `rant' about the current position of jazz. In actual fact, the central argument of the book is that that there is a developing jazz scene outside of the US. Nicholson carefully articulates this argument with the appropriate evidence. The book is well researched, is eloquently written and well structured.
