5.0 out of 5 stars Double the fun, 7 Feb 2012
Have just finished The Stag and Hen Weekend and wanted to say how much I love it. Whichever way you read it (I read it Stags first and my partner read it Hen's first) it's an absolutely gripping read from beginning to end, with so many twists and turns along the way that I could barely put it down. All the usual Mike Gayle traits are here: warmth, humour and insight aplenty with added dash of cleverness in the book's construction. I loved it and I'm sure it will appeal to anyone who loves the way Mike Gayle looks at relationships with his own unique and funny style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sunny read!, 8 Aug 2007
I have loved all of Mike Gayle's novels - he just has a perfect ear for conversation and transports you into real people's lives. I enjoy the warmth of tone he brings to his books and you quickly fall in love with his novels. Wish You Were Here is no different and will be enjoyed by Gayle fans and as a holiday read, it could provide the perfect start for Gayle novices.

As a confirmed Gayle addict, I have been waiting for the difficult second album syndrome to set in with each new novel - surely he must write a dodgy book soon. The odds were therefore high on this, his fourth novel, being crap but I think I love it even more than the others. It's warm and welcoming. Yet again he seems to have written a book that mirrors my thoughts and feelings at this stage of my 30-something life. You find yourself developing a genuine concern for all the key characters in the book and I particularly liked the young girl, Nicola. What a cool kid! I recommend this as the perfect book to read on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
