3.0 out of 5 stars Crusoe, 8 July 2011
An enjoyable read but many of the connections between Defoe, Knox and Crusoe are manufactured in the sense that lots of people do lots of things and pouncing on disconnected similarities does not enhance the theory but in a way detracts from the real connections that do exist.
I, and many people I talk to, immediately say, 'oh, the real Crusoe was Alexander Selkirk. I was disappointed in that Selkirk is given only two , one sentence, dismissals and makes no attempt to discuss how so many people ( I know) have come to think of Alexander Selkirk.
