Whilst reading previous reviews for this book, I was expected something exceptional and out of the ordinary: a real grasp you by the scruff of the neck read. Unfortunately, this was not what I got. Yes, the author obviously has spent years meticulously researching the topic; Yes, he covers certain aspects of how the great world game touches almost all of us in some way, but I felt a little let down and disappointed in his black and white approach to the book. I'd love to feel more intimate with what he describes, feel more emotional about the game I love, learn more about the nuances that make the game what it is. Sorry folks, not the book I was expecting at all.
