Rocks and Minerals in Thin Section: A Colour Atlas by Ian R. MacKenzie
Recently bought a copy of this to complement my second hand polarizing microscope. The text is clear, informative and well written, but the real strength of this book are the colour plates / quality of the printing. Written descriptions are no substitute for seeing the minerals in thin section. Plates are relatively clear, large and of good quality printing - worth a thousand words! I can only say that I wish that I had access to this when i was a first year Earth Sciences undergraduate some 30+ years ago! A must buy for any undergraduate student, or, like me, a living fossil revisiting the subject (for interest and pleasure) after many years away! Buy and enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Sublime, 31 Jan 2012
Couldn't agree more with the first reviewer. The opening of the B flat major is so wonderfully done and relaxing. Played it the other night after a long day at school (teaching) and just felt the tension ebb away. Not qualified to comment on his technical skills - but for me music is for listening to and enjoying! Lewis plays beautifully here. A gem of a CD, and well engineered / good sound quality to match.

Simply stunning. I do not pretend to be a music scholar. I simply listen and enjoy! This to me has to be one of his finest releases I have had the joy to hear. I particularly like Schubert's Sonata in B flat major on disk 2. A good pair of headphones and quality amplifier - sit back and listen! Heaven ! A great loss to us all that he has retired - but as he says himself in the CD notes he has hung up his coat tails whilst still able to delight. Last performance - A great loss to the music community and thank you for many many years of listening pleasure Alfred!
