In My Own Words:
Way back in my childhood I heard a story so true about a funny bunny stealing some food from a garden he knew. His mama got worried, she told the bunny one day, "Better watch the farmer, heed what I say or he'll blow you away". He knew his mama was bright. So why don't he do what she say? Maybe he just don't dig it. Why does he do it? Because he's a rabbit! He started hopping. You can't stop him w… Read more
Way back in my childhood I heard a story so true about a funny bunny stealing some food from a garden he knew. His mama got worried, she told the bunny one day, "Better watch the farmer, heed what I say or he'll blow you away". He knew his mama was bright. So why don't he do what she say? Maybe he just don't dig it. Why does he do it? Because he's a rabbit! He started hopping. You can't stop him while he's on his way.
Out in the garden where the carrots are dense, I found a hole in the fence. Every morning when things are still, rabbit crossed through the hole and eat my fill. The other rabbits see him taking this, made him do wrong. But who cares? I'm a hooked rabbit. Yeah, I gotta kick the habit. Everyday I'm trying to avoid it. What do I do, I know that I've enjoyed it. When they find the true, I beg for my pardon, all the time I made in the garden. We, everything is me and the farmer's not been there. And every little carrot I stole I got delight, and I keep forgettin' that it ain't right. So one day as I was deep in the mill, that farmer pulled a real quick steal, came at me with a big shot gun. And did I run! I ran just as swiftly as I could. Yeah, I split from there with only a second to spare. I could hear the bullets fly through the air. I could hear the words mama told me. If mama knew, she would scold me. I found the real truth feeling I got away without my stealing. The farmer, he really had sense. He plugged up the hole was in the fence, as he's running madly around the garden looking for me crawling. I knew it all along.
Hey, hey, you picked up what I say, hot head rabbit? If you keep your habit, your mama told ya when you hop, that if you stop, you cop the crop. He gets salt and gun for you, because carrots any you make a very good stew. Certainly got you on the run! So you better find a quiet little corner, where the farmer never comes. You got plenty of patches and you snuck in between them. Dig what I mean? Your cottontail has got to keep it clean. Run, rabbit, run! Now you've had your fun. Run before you feel the shotgun. Run, run! While you're in a panic, you forget the garden gate. All you got to do is lay around and wait. Right now the farmer thinks he got ya, really is itchin' to see your face. Don't you meet him! Have the hole in the fence. You can't eat him, it's a natural sense. While he's over by the fence a while away, keep on running 'til you're outta that gate! Now the farmer really scared you to death. You never figured he was out gunning. Better pause a while for catching your breath, you're gonna need it if you're out running. Maybe now you remember what your mama told you. Then you know the reason if your papa scolds ya. So hit the gate and be ready to win. And when you do, show the man your tail! Hurry up, better change your plans, better run from the farmer man. You best think fast, your long husky hair, head for home, rabbit! Duck away and show them your tail. We gonna have a roam when you get home. Now you coming home to momsie and popsie, and your little brothers Flopsie and Mopsie. And you're gonna do what mama intended. Now you eat your carrots 'til you're sent in. I've heard the old story:
"One rabbit foot will bring luck. They're much more lucky, luckier naturally if the rabbit's attached".
