A cover blurb comparing Pryor to Alan Furst was unwise. The bar is set high and the author misses it by a mile.
Some good writing and dialogue are undermined by ludicrous plot contrivances (the sale of an all-important book early in the narrative) and travelog-like descriptions. I rarely give up on a book but couldn't continue past page 80.
