Warning! This Live Cd is for Racer X fans only, extreme raw sound, blistering shredding, a must have for Racer X diehards.
The two previous Racer X CD's Technical Difficulties & Superheroes have been critised by some reviewers as being very 80's.Well duh! Racer X are an 80's band recently re-formed so it is hardly surprising. There is a certain nostalgia value to their recent stuff, which i'm sure is entirely intentional(they cover a lot of their 80's material). These albums are for older fans & for those who may have missed them first time around. Neal Schon is sorely missed, not in the studio (Josh Ramos is a more than able guitarist having worked with Schon/Journey previously)but in the song writing department. Whereas every song on Double Eclipse screamed class,
too many on II are run of the mill AOR.The CD starts off well enough with Hold Me Down & Y, & finishes off well enough with Weight & Way it is,Way it Goes(Joey Geoli's thunderous guitar riffs evident). But after half a dozen plays I tend to skip the middle tracks.Which with most AOR is a bad sign as it either hooks you immediately or leaves you flat. You don't get many "growers" in the genre.
In short worth buying, but don't expect Double Eclipse II.
