Never Odd Or Even [Us Import] ~ Kyle Hollingsworth
Never Odd Or Even [Us Import] ~ Kyle Hollingsworth
I am a great fan of Kyle's keyboard playing with String Cheese Incident but the first couple of times I played this I found it a bit bland. However repeated plays reveal the subtleties of the music. As well as Kyle the album features a four piece band - guitar, bass, drums and percussion. In addition Robert Randolph plays pedal steel on one track, Joshua Redman plays sax on two tracks and Michael Kang (one of Kyle's band mates from String Cheese Incident) plays electric mandolin on two tracks.

I bought the CD as I have long been a fan of moe. and Al & the Transamericans. This is Al on his own playing various electronic instruments. It's a very listenable album but probably not an essential purchase.

Diane Schnier is the lead singer and also wrote all but one of the songs. She also plays piano on most of the tracks and on the others plays drums. I bought this because the band features Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico from moe. and Al and the Transamericans. Musically it is nothing like moe. and not all that much like Al and the Transamericans either. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised as I am not a big fan of female singers.
