I became irritated by the loud tick of my old wall clock, and wanted a silent one. This does a good job, arrived promptly, and I am a satisfied customer. One star deducted because the ring holding the glass in place is loose, and needed adjusting, but seems secure enough now the clock is hung on the wall.
Well up to Jo Nebo's usual high standard, with plot twists to keep you reading on . . . and on . . . and on, and a damaged bit sympathetic hero in Harry Hole. The translation is good enough to enable the reader to forget most of the time that the novel was not originally written in English. I am pleased to see the early HH novels beginning to appear in translation too.
. . . with a few stylistic and proof reading irritations. It was fun to have a story set in a familiar location, though the persistently jaundiced tone of the descriptions of Police officers began to grate on me, and the generally misogynistic view of women, whilst no doubt authentic for the character, would have had me hurling a real book across the room a couple of times; only my regard for the welfare of my Kindle saved it. A tougher editor and a slight attitude adjustment towards the female sex might have earned it 4 stars.
