not only are the b-sides 'slow walking' and 'yamaha superstar' from the undersea community ep included, 'undersea community' itself is there, jumble-shop hip-hop starring a japanese mc and some seafood related samples!
the b-sides appear on the uk frontier psychiatrist single, but the only other avalanches release on which 'undersea community' can be found is the original rex records ep.

last year the avalanches completed a series of tourdates in europe, america and asia (as well as their homeland) to follow up the warmly received release of their debut album, since i left you.
this ep was released in japan to coincide with the tour, and is a compilation of remixes and past b-sides.
as a whole, the ep hangs together exceedingly well, despite the fact that the tracks were not specifically recorded for inclusion on the same cd. you can simply put it on and let it play without your track-skipping-button-finger getting itchy.

it seems that some listeners can't quite comprehend the concept behind the avalanches' thrilling debut album, since i left you.
upon hearing a sample that (shock! horror!) they might have heard before, they immediately label the band lazy, for 'not digging deep enough' into the crates, or even more laughably, unoriginal, simply because sampling is used at all.
i dare them to listen to the 'gimix' bootleg tape that was circulating long before the album was ever released: not only does it contain the 'obvious' samples used in the album itself, but bob dylan, cyndi lauper, jimi hendrix, de la soul, the beatles, the smiths, deee-lite and a whole host of unbelievably big names make… Read more
