This is a deep well with the most satisfying water. I have finished it recently and been delighted, somewhat astounded and enriched by the teaching of this man. After a lifetime's preaching, I have been amazed at Bonar's spiritual understanding and grasp of Biblical teaching. I set it alongside Adolph Saphir's 'Christ Crucified' as one of the most profound expositions of the Gospel of Christ Crucified. Paul said he gloried in that Gospel and wouldn't preach in the wisdom of man lest the Gospel should be made ineffective.
