Beat The Beat: Rhythm Paradise (Wii) by Nintendo

I'm still fairly new to the rhythm genre, but I'm enjoying Beat the Beat. There are 50 mini-games, and after four games there's a remix where the 4 games appear in random order. The game requires no more control than the a button or a and b button, and as long as you can keep with the rhythm then you'll have no trouble, but that's a tricky task to achieve! I found some games too tricky, but you can skip them if you're really struggling. I find the games very well thought out, and there's the old Nintendo magic in every one of them. One of the weirdest games I've played is where you have to rally a shuttlecock in an aeroplane with a cooking utensil, it gets tougher when clouds pass by and… Read more
Mario Tennis Open (Nintendo 3DS) by Nintendo

This is my first Mario Tennis game, and I'm finding it pretty good. I flew through the beginner and intermediate single player tournaments, and then got repeatedly beaten in the final of the Champions League. That's my main gripe about the single player, the difficulty isn't as balanced as I'd like it to be. Once you've finished the tournament (or given it a rest for a while) there are special tennis 'mini-games', where you can shoot balls through rings to get points. The technique you need to get is to shoot through several rings at once to get a score multiplier, the rings get bigger so they're easier to hit but the points value decreases. There are bronze, silver and gold difficulties,… Read more
Back to the Future: The Game (Wii) by Deep Silver

Anyone who loves the Back to The Future Trilogy films and point 'n' click adventure games like the Monkey Island series on the PC should play this game. Ok, this port of the downloadable episodic PC games is a poor port to the Wii, to put it mildly. The game has been 'downgraded' in terms of graphics so that it can be played on the Wii. The loading screens take too long and the animation can be jerky at times, and the controls (point with the WiiMote and press 'A' to confirm action) can be impossible at times. Some of the puzzles required to progress the story take quite a bit of imagination, and some just leave you thinking 'How the hell was I supposed to know that without using a hint?'… Read more
