5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 5 May 2013
Nostalgic. Somewhat biased. But what the heck, with a title like this, you won't be reading it if you aren't a Thatcherite anyway.

a must read for anyone who wish to understand financial history. what has happened. the how and why.

there is so much history in the city which still affects us today, probably for a long time to come.

the repeated rise and fall of the city is a human tale. where there is greed and unscrupulous behaviour, there is also ingenuity, courage and hard work.

there is always two sides to a coin.

Although I'm not one for conspiracy theories, this book does uncover several interesting facts which make you think 'quite a lot coincidences out there, huh?'

Might be a little hard to follow for those who aren't familar with the industry. For those in the know, this should trigger investigations of your own.

All in all, a cracking piece of investigative journalism. I would recommend reading 'the last oil shock' along this. The Last Oil Shock: A Survival Guide to the Imminent Extinction of Petroleum Man
