I bought this before realising there was a cheaper by 20 or so re-issue.... The main difference reading the reviews seems to be that the re-issue has fiddly packaging whilst this 2008 version has a slipcase and a proper DVD box containing the 8 DVD's with no running time or special features differences with the re-issue.... So if you don't mind the fiddly packaging go for the cheaper version, if however you'd prefer a more deluxe case that's perhaps more user friendly buy this version... Either way the four series are five stars and for any fan is well worth having in their collection... Jimi Goodwin has carried on the tradition of Doves and Sub Sub to come up with a varied and diverse album of catchy songs with resonant lyrics and a relentless rhythm that is very easy to get caught up in.

Didsbury Girl, and Panic Tree are the most folky and Doves like of the tracks in my opinion and songs such as Man vs Dingo hark back to Sub Sub with the electronic effects and dark tones. Oh Whiskey is the standout track for me as its lyrics are so catchy. Every song says something different and in an interesting way.

Its a great album and highly recommended to anyone who likes the Doves and it shows that Doves fans can have faith in Jimi to pull out all the stops… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly pitched., 6 Mar 2014
With the writing talent of Steve Coogan the script for Philomena sparks with humour that does not undercut the dark subject matter. If you are open minded and are not influenced by the Catholic rhetoric of critics of this film it is an honest and true account told with heartfelt emotion.
There are moments of comedy which lighten an otherwise very tragic tale but this contrast only helps to heighten your emotions whilst viewing the film.
It is highly recommended and adds to the canon of British films that unapologetically explore true life stories that in the hands of Hollywood producers might have been viewed through much more rose tinted spectacles.
