Zadie Smith's NW is a novel in three parts following the lives of three individuals. The two girls are old school friends, however the man is somewhat tenuously linked.

Smith is an excellent author in delivering witty and wry observations in beautifully crafted paragraphs. However this is also her downfall. Smith's voice is so present throughout the book that she has not managed to allow the author to get to know the characters - and actually care about what happens to them - beyond the funny snapshots in which she so fluently writes.

These work well indoors with absolutely no background noise, however the moment I used them outside for running or in the gym with background noise from the machines the poor sound quality was really apparent. It has absolutely no bass - a very tinny sound - and no noise cancellation. I had to turn up the volume of my ipod to full to just about hear the music. One thing to say though is that they do stay in your ear, you can adjust the clips at three different points which allows them to snuggly fit around your ear and for you to hear the music, albeit tinny and diffused.
Sony XDRS16DP DAB+/DAB Digital Radio by Sony

This radio is great. Perfect sound and it looks nicer than many of the other radios out there. My only criticism is that even when in "standby" mode you cannot dim the brightness of the screen, so at night time is acts as a small lamp on your bedside table. If you are sensitive to light you may want to cover it with a cloth or unplug it at night (then it has to retune when you switch it on).
