this is an unusual, but very enjoyable, sci-fi book. i would describe its focus as ecological, in that a large part of the plot focuses upon vegetarianism, recycling, the importance of looking after nature etc. as with her other books, it is feminist and women take centre stage. i liked the way the book focused on the narratives of two women of different ages and situations. i gave this book to my sister after i had finished reading it - i thought she would enjoy it as a vegan and animal lover, and she loved it! for me, it wasn't atwood's best book (by far) but it was an enjoyable read, nontheless.
