In My Own Words:
Work in adult education, mostly as an e-tutor in Maths. I love the job and also the fact that I work from home.

I would rather post a good review than a bad one, but I do believe in honesty.

I keep saying I don't like sci-fi, but I adore Terry Pratchett's work.

I used to say I didn't like folk music... then I opened my ears and now there's nothing else that I'd rather listen to. I do not e… Read more

Wish I had more time to read and listen to music, love watching sports as well - particularly horse racing and athletics.
Not a great film buff, was a sit-com addict in the days when we had great sit-coms. Sometimes go a day or two without watching … Read more

Shrewdunnit: The Nature Files by Conor Mark Jameson
Shrewdunnit: The Nature Files by Conor Mark Jameson
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is one of those books that is an absolute keeper to anyone who enjoys natural history - to be pulled off the bookshelf and enjoyed for years to come.
Conor Mark Jameson is a fine writer - he was BBC Wildlife Magazine's Writer of the Year in 2010 - and has a witty, accessible and thoroughly readable writing style.

Shrewdunnit isn't just about shrews, in case anyone is misled, though they do feature. It's set out as a round the year account of wildlife events, some of them in articles previously published, others are essays that are new to the printed page. Rather than seasons, the book is imaginatively divided into southern and northern solstices and equinoxes. They… Read more
Duronic [Black] VC6 /B Bagless Upright Handheld St&hellip by Duronic
This super - light stick vacuum is just brilliant. I had memories of a hand held Dustbuster from twenty years ago that blew more across the room than it picked up and was a little dubious. There was no need. At 600w it's more than capable of picking up from my vinyl, carpet tiles and laminate flooring. The light weight of the head means there is no danger of a heavy beater bar set for carpets marking the floor.

I had bought it as I have arthritis and was unable to carry my Hetty vacuum cleaner safely up and down stairs any more. No such problems with this. I can carry it easily in one hand. The fact that it is mains rather than rechargeable means that I don't run out of power… Read more
Arthur Quinn and the World Serpent (The Father of &hellip by Alan Early
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This book lifts itself above most children's fantasy by its inventive use of Norse mythology combined with everyday events in a way that engages and keeps the reader reading. The introduction is the events of the Poetic Edda from Norse mythology; Loki is bound with ties by the gods who place a venom-dripping serpent above him, the venom being caught in a bowl. However when the bowl is removed for emptying, the venom drips directly on to Loki. In this author's version the bowl is overflowing and Loki is writhing in agony as the venom drips on to him. Loki's escaping his bonds will be the event that brings about world floods and the Twilight of the Gods/

I often find YA fantasy… Read more
