Baking with Passion (Baker & Spice) by Dan Lepard

What a brilliant book! You will never eat supermarket cotton wool-like bread again! It may seem a bit pernickity making your own sour-dour starters, but, boy, those results are so worth it! I have also made a number of cakes, the lemon drizzle is fantastic, and the carrot cake is too good for words, and the devil's food and marble cake attract a lot of compliments. Not brave enough to try my own croissants or danish pastries, yet, but these guys have inspired me to take further training and start up my own business.

i have made quite a lot of cakes following the receipes of julie duff, and i appreciate the history that she has provided, I certainly couldn't care less about her grammar or prose, it's the cake result that's far more interesting!
The marmalade cake is just superb, you can't just eat one slice then walk away! The dundee cake is also a winner, however, the receipe for a very old fashioned plum cake is sublime. I go on to sell my cakes at fayre's and fete's, and the comments about the plum cake are always encouraging. Fochabers gingerbread very interesting. A trusted book in my collection!
