First off, let me say, The Malazan Empire books are well-written, the world construction is meticulous, down to passing smells, and transient impressions of sound and colour... Indeed the only critique is that the detail is often times, especially after 4 books, well, EXHAUSTING!
Were I not already a fan of many of the well-fleshed out, frankly, corpulently described characters--larger than life now, many of them, I would cry off reading any further.
This was a problem for Robert Jordan as well, and I wish Mr Ericksen's editor were less of a fan of the characters and the slightly dragging pace of the multiply intertwined storylines.
