At 30 years of age, I recently re-discovered vinyl for the third time in my life. From a very early age I grew accustomed to the unmistakeable characteristics of the medium --the good and the bad. One of the (bad) characteristics I always hated was the fact that most records would suffer from the 's' problem on the vocals, where 's' sounds would sound more like 'shhh' instead. This, in my experience, would happen less with 12'' Singles or records that were cut with lots of space in-between grooves, so I always thought I would just have to live with it. In a period where, in my opinion, 'popular' music has almost reached rock bottom, plagued with records that sound all exactly the same like they were done by the same guy on the same Mac with the same Logic instruments, here we have a guy that's managed to put something out there that's actually of great quality. Jason writes amazing lyrics and his melodies are very catchy. Not only that, the album contains 'live instruments' (that's a rarity nowadays), it sounds great (mixed by the brilliant Tony Masserati) and is a pleasure to the ears since it's not squashed to death like most pop/rock stuff nowadays.
