It's Not Me, It's You!: Impossible perfectionist, &hellip by Jon Richardson

My only knowledge of Jon Richardson prior to reading this book was his appearances on the Channel 4 TV show "8 out of 10 cats" where he is fairly amusing in a self-deprecating sort of way.

I bought this book on a whim after seeing the Kindle Edition on offer for £1.99. Sadly, however, I can't recommend it in any way - even at that low price.

In the book Jon describes a few days of his life in excruciatingly tedious and monotonous detail. But that's not even the worst aspect - it's the unremitting misanthropy, anxiety and depression that made this book impossible for me to finish (I read 48% according to my Kindle)!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book, 19 April 2006
I can only assume that the reviewer that gave this book just 1 star hasn't actually read it - his/her comments certainly suggest that.

Far from being padded, this book is packed with tips and advice. Some of it is common sense, but a lot of it isn't - it's well researched information on a variety of topics. Thanks to this book I am now have a cashback credit card which I pay off in full by direct debit every month. I would never have considered getting one before I read the book.

This is a 5 star book - no doubt about it.

This book provides 1001 chess diagrams, all with a forced checkmate for the side to move.
It is split into different chapters, each with a different theme: Queen Sacrifices, Checkmate without the Queen, Storming the Castled Position, Harrying the King, Discovered and Double Check, Pawn Promotion, A Variety of Motifs and Composed Problems.
Each chapter starts with a brief introductory page with some general advice on solving the problems that follow, but this is NOT a book which teaches you how to solve the problems. That is something you have to do yourself - you learn by solving the problems and then recognizing similar positions that crop up later.
There is no doubt that… Read more
