Galileo's Daughter: A Drama of Science, Faith and &hellip by Dava Sobel

In Galileo's Daughter, Sobel has succeeded in writing a truly excellent book. We are taken masterfully through Galileo's life; from birth to death, via his publications, his family relationships and the Inquisition.

As the title suggests, a primary focus of the work is on the relationship between Galileo and his daughter, Maria Celeste. Her written letters to Galileo are worked gracefully into the main text by Sobel. At times she takes the narrative forward herself, whilst at others allows the reader to hear it from the words of Maria Celeste, which Sobel herself has translated.

The length of the book is perfect. Nothing is skimmed over, and we learn a vast deal about… Read more
Simplexity: The Simple Rules of a Complex World by Jeffrey Kluger

"Simplexity. A groundbreaking new concept ... "
What concept? There doesn't appear to be one here.

The book consists of eleven chapters; each looking into an example of this simplexity throughout different aspects of nature and human life. What is good about these chapters is that they each are packed full of some very interesting facts. However, the book falls down with the inability of the author to ever offer some kind of comment or conclusion to what he is writing about.

Because of this the book feels rather empty, and you kind of feel that though you may be reading some rather interesting facts the book never goes anywhere, and you'll probably take nothing… Read more
Olympus Leather Case - Universal Compact 2005 by Olympus

This case is just what I needed. I own an Olympus X-705, and it fits into the case very well, also there is a special pocket for an xD card to fit in. I love the free Yellowtag service that comes with the case, you sign up on the Yellowtag website, put in the codes, and then you stick the sticker on your camera. If you lose your camera, and it is found, the finder e-mails the unique email address. Then you receive a text on your phone saying that your camera has been found, and details of how to collect it. You get 12 months free with this service. The only criticism I have is that there is no room to store batteries or more than one xD card in the case.
