I thought I was on safe ground with a Pat Barker novel, having enjoyed several of her previous books. Oh, how disappointed I was with Life Class!
The setting is intriguing. Young, artistic men and women finding their way in pre-war London away from the conventions of family life, a life that is about to be changed forever by the horrors of the First World War.
Two chapters in I was already feeling bored and a little irritated by the clunking style and what seemed like lazy writing. And the sex scenes!
