Utterly captivating read and I defy anyone not to go on an emotional rollercoaster with this book. Told in 2 parts - part Hasso and his life living with 'locked in' syndrome and part Catherine and her life with her husband as a patient. While that all sounds clinical and depressing, this book is actually so much more!! The 2 parts of the book both counter and compliment each other perfectly. Hasso's descriptions of living with 'locked in' syndrome are completely terrifying and frankly, incomprehensible to anyone not going through the same thing. He describes lying in bed for hours with an itch in his leg and unable to get the attention of hospital staff who overlook him and treat him like… Read more

I absolutely loved The House At Riverton and was my book of the summer last year so was really looking forward to reading this. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed! It was perfectly readable and it was a good story but I think her style in this one wasn't as captivating as her first book. The book was definitely that little bit too long and i think the jumping around between years and characters was too frequent and made me a bit dizzy. I think if she'd kept the story a little bit simpler it would have been a much better book. However, although I didn't enjoy it as much as The House At Riverton, this is still an ok book to read and one I would recommend giving a go if you have the time.

I am a huge fan of the 101 books and I own a few of them but I have to say that this isn't one of the better ones. The choice of dishes aren't particularly interesting or inventive and a lot of them aren't even hot or spicy. I really struggle to find recipes that I would want to make and tend not to pick this up when looking for inspiration.
