This so called 'Hitchcock' type thriller set in the Bible Belt of America had all the makings of a solid thriller, with a new pastor for a Baptist church after the other one had been murdered by the son of a chuch zealot, who did not appreciate
his trying to bring the church into the 21st century.

Now, there are women or men for that matter that are over zealous, so the story was a good one. It was immediately spoilt by showing you the murder of the old pastor, so you knew immediately what was afoot. I see American reviewers

So begins a wonderful journey about 'Homer'(played by Toby Maguire) an orphan himself under the wing of ether sniffing Dr Larch. I have not read the novel by John Irving but from previous reviewers it appears that the book,as is want, goes into far more depth with the characters and story, which covers abortion, incest and of course love and devotion.

Set in World War 2, this story, beautifully filmed with exquisite scenery, will have you laughing, crying and send your emotions all this way and that. The acting by… Read more
