This book doesn't really go anywhere. It starts with a radio shock-jock drinking, taking drugs and shagging around and ends with a radio shock-jock drinking, taking drugs and shagging around.
On the book it states that it is 'a caustic look at the default culture of britain' which i suspect is how most journo's live which is why they thought that.
Whilst reading this book I was constantly thinking "get on with it" as there is some waffle that Dickens would have been proud of in here (although Banks isn't paid by the word).
Some of the characters could have been interesting had there been more exploration of them and there motives.
