Innotek Anti-Bark Spray Collar, Unscented Citronel&hellip by PetSafe

The first time we used the collar on her we were amazed, she stayed out in the garden for hours without barking. What we did not realise was that she was cowering outside as she could not give her usual single bark to be let in! That was the first problem we encountered - but to be fair that is not to do with the effectiveness of the collar, but rather with the way our dog communicates with us. It is the story of August, a ten year old boy with a pronounced facial disfigurement. He has been home-schooled all his life and the novel follows his first year at middle school, told from his point of view and also that of those around him. Although dealing with a heartbreaking topic, the author approaches the subject with such humour and warmth that I found myself laughing out loud, as well as crying my eyes out. An ok thriller with some interesting characters but I was left a little flat at the end. Never having been to Moscow,(and not sure after this if I want to!) I don't doubt that the descriptions were accurate but sometimes I wished the author had spent a little more time fleshing out the characters and a little less time on the location detail. The ending is never in doubt, but I didn't care enough about the narrator to be shocked by his ultimate corruption and betrayal. An easy read, but ultimately disappointing.
