Having been a fan of Peter Weir for years i was most disappointed with this pedestrian effort. Whilst well acted, shot and scored this film lacks any real depth and consists mostly of actors walking from one point to another in different locations. We never really get an understanding of these men and where exactly they are for most of this expedition. Yes it was an amazing feat of endurance, yes the conditions were ridiculously imposing but the portrayal here is very flat and undermines the overwhelming journey that these men undertake. All this film is essentially is a lot of walking and very little substance. Very disappointing.
