Overhyped, hypocrytical, ill-conceived, poorly written, almost plotless and with characters that lack even two dimensions. The author comes across as an overprivileged loudmouthed trying too hard to be clever, which if you read his biography, you find out that's exactly what he is. I wouldn't even buy it if you were short on toilet roll - it's printed on shiny paper.

I cannot believe that Stephen Fry recommends this book. If you (like me) enjoy reading counter-culture novels, then buy a different one - there are plenty of excellent books out there. If you like penis jokes, the "Viz" books and annuals contain many of those and they're far funnier than the ones in this novel. If… Read more

Dark, complex, full of twists, featuring unlikeable characters in almost unremittingly bleak circumstances. Great.

Do you like heroes? Plots where good and evil are easily distinguished? Straightforward, linear narratives? That's not here.

The book is like Marmite - there are those that loved it and those that hated it. The reviews from those that hated it make the same complains - basically the reasons I list for it being a great book in the first sentence.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, buy the book, it is the best of its kind. If it's not your thing, don't buy it, it's the worst of its kind.

Personally I think it's Banks' best.

Despite being a massive Family Guy fan, I was a little disappointed in this box set. Season 5 is probably the weakest, although it's not without its moments. The first episode, PTV, is a Family Guy classic and the episodes featuring more of Mayor West (Deep Throats and You May Now Kiss The Guy Who Receives) are the highlights.

It pains me to give any Family Guy series a mediocre 3 stars, and it's because of some very poor individual episodes. I Take Thee Quagmire is particularly disappointing as I was looking forward to the first proper Quagmire episode. The tedious commentaries (none of them including the show's creator, Seth McFarlane) are a waste of time even for hardcore… Read more
