Below Stairs: The Bestselling Memoirs of a 1920s K&hellip by Margaret Powell
This is the tale of a young girl's foray onto domestic service at the beginning of the last century. An academic child she is forced into work for financial reasons with no particular ambition to excel. The book is a collection of reminiscences from the various houses that Margaret spent her working life in. However, having read several books of this genre there were no great surprises for me.

The War of the Wives by Tamar Cohen
This is the first Tamar Cohen book I read and I immediately bought 'Someone Else's Wedding' and 'The Mistress's Revenge' on the strength of it. Two women become aware of each other's existence and their importance in their husband's lives when they become widows. The characters are flawed, loveable and believable. You will love this if you are a fan of Joanna Trollope.

I found my new Joanna Trollope! A story of a wedding - so far so same old... However the reader becomes aware very quickly of an undercurrent of suspicion and a feeling that there is something not quite right. When the reason revealed itself I was taken totally by surprise.
