In My Own Words:
"ITHACA" by Constantine P. Cavafy

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
wild P… Read more

"Frost/Nixon is a riveting historical drama, based on the play by Peter Morgan. Morgan wrote the movie's screenplay, as well as screenplays for "The Queen," and "The Last King of Scotland." The controversial 1977 Frost/Nixon interviews are dramatized here, and Frank Langella's superb performance as the disgraced former president, Richard M. Nixon, is worth the price of a movie rental alone.

Richard Nixon resigned from the office of the presidency on August 9, 1974, rather than face impeachment by Congress for his role in the Watergate scandal, and subsequent events. He was the only US president ever to do so. The film shows real footage of the Nixon family, leaving the White… Read more

Eight year-old Bruno, (Asa Butterfield), is an innocent, carefree boy growing up in Berlin during WWII. As the film opens, we see him running through the city's streets with his three best friends, their arms outstretched, pretending to be airplane pilots and feigning battles. Seemingly oblivious, they race past scenes of Jews being rounded up to be taken to concentration camps. Bruno, with his wonderful sense of adventure, wants to be an explorer when he grows up.

He lives in a beautiful mansion, complete with gardens and servants, along with his twelve year-old sister Gretel, (Amber Beattie), their beautiful mother, (Vera Farmiga), and their father, a high ranking SS officer,… Read more
Rachel Getting Married [DVD] [2009] DVD ~ Anne Hathaway

I usually don't go out of my way to see a film with the word "wedding" in the title. I have absolutely nothing against weddings. I just don't enjoy the typical, cliched family dramas surrounding nuptials. There are exceptions. I really loved "Four Weddings and A Funeral," and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." When I saw that "Rachel's Getting Married" had come out in rentals, I took a chance. I had heard so many good things about the film. So, I figured, why not? I must say I am not sorry at all. This is a really good, and most unconventional movie.

Yes, it involves a dysfunctional family, (don't they all?), but there's lots of edgy humor, a cast which includes people of almost every… Read more
