The story bowls along at a fair clip, and only overstretches credibility towards the end. The author uses the well-worn structure of first person narrative, interspersed with brief third-person teasers. There is also the over-familiar device of an old photograph revealing the unexpected. Some of the recaps are a little laboured, or at least aimed at the less attentive reader. But nevertheless it kept me entertained over a few days on the beach. There is some quite witty dialog to spice things up, and I would recommend it as holiday or in-flight reading.
