Coptic Culture: Past, Present and Future by Mariam Ayad
This book is the proceedings of a conference with contributors from Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, UK and the USA. The papers are organised into five blocks: The Egyptian roots of the Coptic Culture, Archaeology, Case studies, Current trends, and the Coptic Culture today and where it is heading.
In the first section Mariam Ayad transcribed a Paschal Coptic hymn into Egyptian Hieroglyphs, a fascinating work illustrating the link between the past and present in the Coptic Church.
John Gee described how the Egyptians when converted to Christianity they dropped certain words from their vocabulary that was related to the ancient Egyptian religion.

Decline And Fall Of The Roman Empire: Vols 1-3: 3 &hellip by Edward Gibbon

1.0 out of 5 stars Advert not accurate, 14 May 2013
This is the third time I have problems with multi-volume books.
The advert on Amazon web site can be misleading. One expect something and receives much less.
The advert states: 1-3 Vol of 3 Vol publication. It is a six Vol publication and what arrived was Vol 3 of the 6 set publication. Even the photo on the advert page was not the one on the cover of the book received. A further misleading point is the number of pages. What is quoted is the number of the WHOLE 6 volume set.
Amazon should have a stricter policy regarding the adverts placed on its web site regarding multi-volume books.
Be aware of multi-volume books.
Encyclopaedia of Islam 1913-1936, E.J. Brill's by M. Th. Houtsma
5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection, 18 April 2009
This is the one and only Encyclopaedia on Islam available as an extensive and complete series. Another recent one is in progress.
Volume 9, the index, is indispensable.
You need to try more than one entry, actually several, to find what you are looking for. Once you find the proper reference, you will be very pleased with the information it contains; do not despair in your searches.
A point of warning: be sure that what on offer is the whole set and that comprises NINE volumes; that is vital.
Had a similar problem when purchased Edward Gibbon's "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire".
Be aware of excatly what you are buying when you… Read more
