In many ways 'Paris' is very similar to this authors earlier titles such as 'London', New York' and 'Dublin' etc., in so much as it follows the history of a number of families connected with the city. What is different about 'Paris' is that a much more limited set of time periods is examined than in the other titles and the narrative is not temporarily linear, jumping back and forth in history. Like his other titles you don't get a huge amount of character development as the people are only used as a lens through which to examine key periods of the city history. When I saw this book offered by Amazon Vine I was not familiar with the case, not having watched any of the documentaries which have covered it. I thought that a book describing such as major miscarriage of justice would be interesting.

The book is easy to read but was ultimately rather disappointing. The majority of the book, around 75% covers the authors childhood, with almost nothing about his trial and relatively little about his time in prison on Death Row. The author regularly reminds the reader that he was not guilty of these murders, and yet neglects to spell out any evidence that could show that he was not the killer. This is a handy spare bulb kit to carry in your car. I bought it for a trip to France. A little pricey.
