The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton
The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton
5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Excellent, 1 Feb 2014
Why we all still believe that philosophy is something most of us will never get our heads round, is rarefied and only for the select few to understand, I will never know. We all could do with LOTS of philosophy in our lives. Books like this one go a long way to filling that void!

Thank you Alain, for providing this distillation of "elder wisdom" and for stimulating my interest to go forth and discover more, and then to carry that knowledge and wisdom into my daily interactions with others.
Murder in the Cathedral: York Notes by Tony Bareham
3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably helpful, 1 Feb 2014
He gives a simple summmary of the text and some interesting background notes, but I could have done with more detailed analysis and more specific notes related to tricky passages in the play. However, the overview and the commentary which set out the overall intention of the play and the nature of its exploration of the themes of martyrdom etc were useful.
W. A. Mozart: Don Giovanni (Cambridge Opera Handbo&hellip by Julian Rushton
Such useful background to the Opera. Eye opening. A must read if ever a singer or director embarks on this piece
