If The Booker prize givers had any credibility, they would have given this book their prize. Intelligent, informative and a marvellous combination of humour and real horror. It doesn't parody Victorian writers yet portrays a vivid picture of those times without the characters becoming cliched. They are real and fascinating. My only problem now is finding something to read as brilliant and enjoyable as this book. Get your pen out Mr Williams PLEASE!
