I recently re-discovered this film and have to say that I enjoy it just as much now, aged 16, as I did when Bette Midler's showstopping rendition of "I'll Put a Spell on You" was first imprinted on my brain at the tender age of six. Sure, it does drag in places (the child actors are not exactly brimming over with charisma...) and the marked, albeit supremely camp, wickedness of the witches may be too much for some younger children to handle, but for sheer entertainment value this film is hard to beat.

It has a surprisingly interesting plot and all three Macbeth-style witches (the mythical "Saunderson sisters") light up the screen whenever the camera falls on them. In particular,… Read more

I was less than enthusiastic when the DVD version of this film was produced by my young charges while I was babysitting recently.

Ordinarily, a film based on a popular board game would not sound the most exciting of prospects, indeed it is the type of film that most sane people over the age of nine would go out of their way to avoid. However, when I discovered that it stars both Tim Curry AND Christopher Lloyd (both veritable kings of cult cinema) as well as that bloke who played the principal in the 90s TV series version of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", I decided to give it a chance.

Am I glad that I did!

Ok, so I wasn't alive in the 70s but, in common with several other reviewers on here, I found much to like about this charming trip down memory lane. Perhaps due to a childhood filled with my parents' rose-tinted anecdotes about the decades in which they grew up (the 60s and 70s) I have always been attracted to all things related that era. I was therefore immediately drawn to this eye catching book while out shopping recently. It did not disappoint- the pages are packed and I discover something new each time I open it.
