The author visited my son's school and gave tantalising insights into these books. He really captured their imagination and my son (a reluctant reader) begged me to get Scabberjack. Not only did he read every single page himself and love it, he persuaded me to read it too. I have just finished it and what an incredible read! It's a great way to introduce children to horror - not too terrifying, but just enough to keep you on the edge of the proverbial seat! This is a really lovely story, ideal for young teenagers male or female. Set in a simple diary style making it attractive to readers who do not like to read too much at once. Plenty of humour throughout. All works of art mentioned are real so it is fun to look them up on the internet as you read through the book.

Fantastic book! The story is exciting and entertaining. There are few enough words on a page to not dishearten the less confident reader but enough to keep the more able reader interested. Likewise the text size is not too small nor too large. The wonderful illustrations add to the beauty of the book.
