Soldier Girl is a much desired follow up to Hopscotch Summer. It gives more background and fills in the gaps in Molly Fox's story. The character of Molly is very complex due to terrible abuse she suffered as a child and Annie Murray does a very good job of portraying the feelings of self contempt she has. She always feels inferior so over compensates by being loud and crude, therefore making her look what she is not.
On another note I do not think there is anybody better than Annie Murray at describing bomb raids on Birmngham in the second world war. Both in this book and Birmingham Blitz she gets exactly the atmosphere of terror, horror at what is happening and most of all… Read more
