The Power Of The Dog by Don Winslow
The Power Of The Dog by Don Winslow
Don Winslow seems to be a bit of a secret. Not nearly enough people know him. He can get confused with his namesake who writes sexy pulp fiction but this book is very much written by the real McCoy. Brilliant book in everyway and would make a great movie in the right hands. It's full blooded rip-roaring read and hold you the length of the book without every losing it's rhythm or tempo. Winslow's style is very readable and slick as are his other books of which I can particularly recommend, The Winter of Frankie Machine, California Fire & Life and The Gentleman's Hour.
Birds of the Middle East (Helm Field Guides) by Richard Porter
Best book on the area in the market. Clear and concise with good information given for accurate recognition of the bird you're looking up.
The Evil Beneath by A J Waines
The Evil Beneath by A J Waines
I thought the plot was really rather good. Unlike so many thriller where you know exactly 'who done it' long before the end the killer came pretty much out of left field. Sadly this was let down by the lead character's who were unconvincing and frankly, annoying. The lead being the type of Islington intellectual Guardian reader (v-gd paper btw) you usually want to 'stab' after a couple of conversation who then suddenly becomes a lifesaving superwoman. Not convinced but great plot.
