Cres-Losinj-Krk-Rab, Croatia (Maps & Atlases)
This map helped me to find my way around Cres and Lošinj, but it has little detail, and although generally correct it could be better in places. It was fine for driving, but for walking it is just a vague help. In Britain we are spoiled by the OS - but this is the best map of this area I have seen. To find particular places I found it helpful to compare the map with Google Earth.
Root Cellaring: Natural Cold Storage of Fruits and&hellip by Mike Bubel

This book addresses the storage of vegetables in cellars without refrigeration. It uses imperial units and Fahrenheit temperatures, which give it a very dated feel, and american names for vegetables, which hamper understanding. Its main problem is that it deals with the construction of actual cellars under your house or outbuildings. Unless this is done at the same time as other work, the bureaucratic costs of Building Control and possibly Planning Permission would be prohibitive. In many areas a high water table precludes cellars. I had hoped that this book would deal with the construction of above ground insulated sheds for the storage of produce, which is more practical for many people.
The Humanure Handbook: A Guide to Composting Human&hellip by Joseph C. Jenkins

This book attempts to convince people to compost their faeces rather than flush them down the sewers. This is fundamentally a good idea - it is wasteful to throw away a useful fertiliser, wasteful to flush it away with drinking quality water, and the effluent from sewage plants pollute our rivers. The author spoils his good intentions by wasting pages expounding his political and religious views, which are likely to offend a proportion of readers, who may then be less inclined to make humanure, which would be a shame. The book does contain all the practical information you require to make humanure at home, although probably not in a bedsit.
