A good film, with another great performance from Chalize Theron, as she plays an alcoholic delusional . Theron excellently plays Mavis Gary, an ex girlfriend from a "hick town" where she was the most popular prom girl at school. She is obnoxious, immature, messed up and as the film evolves blatantly mentally and clinically disturbed as her failing life is exposed.

The cast is very good (great support element from Oswalt) and the film does have it's funny and dramatic scenes, but it is a way off of perfection. Theron is beautiful and does play interestingly abnormal characters with an impressive ease, but the film does feel a little lacking at times and I guess is a short idea and… Read more

After half an hour of boredom this slick little low-key Aussie thriller really gets going. Based around prostitution, a retiring woman and a young starter team up for a special job, which goes majorly wrong.

The film is colourfully shot, grim yet fresh and at times, it builds up the excitement and tension well. The two leads act well, even if the support cast is woeful, to deliver a semi-thrilling trip. What starts off as a weak soft core porn drama spins into a more tense affair, boasting some intrigue (and pleasingly in a different setting - a slice of Sydney seediness).

I found it slow at times and it is quite demanding, but like a late night TV movie this is a… Read more
Election 2 [DVD] DVD ~ Louis Koo
Election 2 [DVD] DVD ~ Louis Koo
This return is a much better film, being a bolder, more action packed continued sequel to the more dramatic Election.

This Triad drama has enough violence and action to make it entertaining, interesting and more movie like (than the first). Again, it is Wu Sing family election time and there is a battle between the two top candidates. It all seems a repeat with more confidence, but it is an arguably a better, if less poignant, watch than the first but it does benefit from having the scene and situation set before it. An ok watch for hardcore world cinema fans, but nothing amazing or fresh here.
