I honestly can't say enough good things about this book.
This gave me a vivid insight into life in the forties, the battles individuals had to face on a personal level and the battles on a more global scale and the ultimate loss of innocence coinciding with the war. The realisation of the long lost art of courtship makes me wish I was born in a different era. This book had me laughing, crying and above all else, pondering issues in my own life and taking an outsider's point of view on it. There are not many books that have touched me the way this one has.
